Buying a Pug

For those of you who have searched for a pug to buy, you know that it's not as easy as you might first think. It's not like going into a store, trying on a shirt and buying it that day. It takes much more research to find a pug puppy in your area and chances are there will be plenty of other people who are also looking for one too, which means that your name may be placed on a waiting list. Usually the breeders will live a few hours or more away from where you are too. You will need to learn the difference between AKC certification and ACA. There is a difference between various pug breeders which you will notice in the prices.

My husband and I started on our search for a pug a month or two ago. I had wanted a pug for almost a decade now but didn't feel ready to commit to the responsibilities it entailed. Well, as you can imagine, over the years my desire to get a pug increased as I waited for the right moment to purchase one. The considerations included how much time we had to devote to walking, feeding, taking care of, and playing with the pug as well as what our finances were and if it was wise to use our finances on a pug (which could be considered a luxury or non-necessity, especially during this recession). Considering that I have decided to return to school again to change my career, the added educational costs don't help the situation.

After some consideration, though, I realized that there is NO good time to get a pug, just like there will be no "best" time to have kids or go back to school or any other goal in life. There will always be something standing in the way if you let it. My new philosophy for myself this year is to live my dreams NOW. Not tomorrow, not next year, not in the next decade. Do what makes me happy now and everything else will fall into place if you follow what brings you the most joy. I decided to take that leap and finally commit to buying a pug. After all, I will have more time to be at home (although I will be doing work) to give the little pug attention and love.

Once we made the decision, we did more searching to find a breeder close to us and instead of having to drive hours for one, we found one 30 minutes away! How lucky are we? And the litter was born only 2 weeks before we called, which means we were the first in line for the only male that was part of the little. We wanted a male pug because we already had a name for it that my husband came up with a few months ago. We just went to see the baby pug this past weekend and put a deposit on it. I am SOOOOOOOOO excited!!!!! I have already joined the pug meetup group (even before we actually had a pug) because I wanted to know what pug events were going on around town. :) I have not joined the pug world and I can't wait because I have an immense love for pugs that I cannot explain!

So, if you love pugs too, you are in the right place. This blog will be all about our little pug adventures with our new pug Winston. We don't actually get him until he is 12 weeks old, which is the weekend of Thanksgiving, so come back then to see pictures of our little puggie!

Here are a few photos we took this weekend of our little Winston. In this photo he is 2 weeks and 5 days old! Isn't he cute?
